How To Stay Healthy In The Air

Jun 27, 2014

Summer is the biggest season for traveling, and traveling means a lot of hours spent in the air en route to exciting destinations (hopefully an Auberge property!). There’s nothing better than a great vacation….. and there’s nothing worse than feeling sick on a vacation you’ve been looking forward to for months! Follow the tips below for a greater chance of stepping off that plane feeling better than ever:

1)   Hydrate your body by drinking lots of water, using chapstick and applying eyedrops. The air that fills an airplane is always very dry, meaning that your body can be easily dehydrated, simply due to the altitude.

2)   Get up and stretch! It is in fact true that sitting in one place for a long time can inhibit body circulation and increase fatigue. Most doctors recommend that people get up and move every two hours, to prevent the formation of blood clots.

3)   Bring hand wipes and hand sanitizer along for the flight! People tend to not realize the quantity of germs present on an airplane. And when you’re in a dry environment like a plane, germs tend to spread even faster, making it even more important to frequently sanitize your hands.

4)   Bring your own food! Plane food tends to be high in carbs and low in protein, lacking the nutrients and energy your body needs.

5)   Make sure to plan ahead and give yourself extra time at the airport! Feeling rushed and stressed as you get onto a plane will make your immune system suffer and lead you to experience a less enjoyable flight overall.

6)   Eat chlorophyll-rich foods, such as seaweed, or add a few chlorophyll drops to your water. When we fly at high altitudes, we have less protection against radiation. Some studies show that ingesting helps reduce the damage the radiation can inflict.

Now go enjoy your vacations!
