Auberge Resorts Collection’s Mark Harmon Inducted Into Napa County Historical Society Lodging Hall of Fame

Harmon Honored For Extraordinary Impact On The Destination of Napa Valley

NAPA, CALIF. (November 16, 2015) – Mark Harmon, Founder and Managing Partner of Auberge Resorts Collection, was honored by the Napa County Historical Society and inducted into its Lodging Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 12. Named for the company’s Napa Valley flagship hotel, the five-star Auberge du Soleil, Auberge Resorts Collection has played a pivotal role in putting Napa Valley on the map as a destination that is world-renowned for hospitality and culinary excellence. Harmon, who formed the company in 1998, has led Auberge’s growth in Napa Valley and beyond, to destinations as far-flung as Fiji and Costa Rica. The group’s resorts have garnered the highest accolades, and Auberge was recently recognized in Travel + Leisure as one of the top 10 hospitality brands in the world.

Nearly 300 celebrants gathered at Silverado Resort’s historic General Miller Mansion to recognize Harmon and nine other Napa Valley hotel icons, including Shelley Post of the Four Sisters Inns, Harry Price of the Napa River Inn, Jim Treadway of the Bardessono and Mark and Carolynne Wilkinson of Dr. Wilkinson’s Hot Springs Resort. Five other Napa Valley lodging pioneers of the past were inducted: Sam Brannan of the Calistoga Hot Springs, Sven Alstrom of White Sulphur Springs, Colonel Jackson of Napa Soda Springs, Owen Kenney of the Hotel Calistoga and Len D. Owens of Aetna Springs.

“Lodging & Agriculture have always been the two pillars of prosperity and well-being in the Napa Valley, since the very beginning,” said Don Winter, Board Member, Napa Valley Historical Society. “With Auberge du Soleil, Auberge brought high quality, once again, to the Napa Valley,  similar to our grand resorts of the 1800’s. Today, we really do have a worldwide reputation. Many brands have entered the marketplace. But only Mark and the Auberge team have exported Napa style and luxury brands to the rest of the world.”

“This is a tremendous honor for me – one I share with the entire Auberge Resorts Collection team,” said Harmon. “Napa Valley has been a source of great delight to our family throughout the years, both personally and with our hotels. I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to share my love of this place with our guests. The lifestyle that is simply focused on the land is what inspires me. Our Napa Valley projects are, and forever will be, the benchmarks for everything we do as a company, wherever in the world we may be.”

The pioneering boutique luxury resort Auberge du Soleil, which first opened as a restaurant in 1981, was conceived and built by Claude Rouas and Bob Harmon. Intimate and elegant, the “Inn of the Sun” was unlike anything the hotel industry had seen before – a modern interpretation of a French country inn, infused with the relaxed spirit of Napa Valley.  The only hotel in the Valley to have earned a Forbes Five Star rating, it tops nearly every list of best U.S. hotels and is acclaimed as an essential part of any wine country visit. The Auberge du Soleil was the inspiration for Mark Harmon’s launch of Auberge Resorts Collection in 1998.

In 2007, Auberge opened Solage Calistoga and introduced sustainability and Michelin-starred casual dining to Napa Valley. Soon, the company will break ground on its newest project, VieVage Napa Valley, at Stanley Ranch. Conceived as a gathering place for families and friends, VieVage will celebrate contemporary themes of design, community, locally sourced food, sustainability, fitness and wellness together in a fresh, active and social environment.

Esperanza, an Auberge Resort Ushers In A New Era of Luxury with Contemporary Re-Design

Award-Winning Resort Will Re-Open June 2015 With Revitalized Guest Rooms, Restaurant, Pool, Spa and Public Spaces That Exude Barefoot Elegance While Channeling Cabo’s Coastal Setting

CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO (April 21, 2015) – Auberge Resorts Collection, the internationally renowned developer and operator of exceptional hotels and private clubs, will reopen Esperanza, An Auberge Resort, in June 2015 with a comprehensive revitalization that will usher in a new era of luxury and sophistication for the romantic oceanfront property. Exuding barefoot elegance and sensual relaxation, the dramatic and contemporary redesign of the 57-room intimate beachfront resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico will feature completely transformed guest rooms, a revitalized Cocina del Mar restaurant and Lounge Bar, enhanced pool and terrace with new cozy lounge spaces and cabanas and refreshed spa and public spaces. In celebration of Esperanza’s reopening, guests can take advantage of a “Rediscover Esperanza” travel package and special spa promotions.

“We are excited to welcome our guests back to Esperanza with a contemporary redesign that provides a fresh take on coastal living in Cabo,” said Marc Rodriguez, general manager of Esperanza. “As one of Cabo’s most romantic destinations, we hope our guests will enjoy rediscovering Esperanza. With our stylish new spaces, extensive Auberge Adventures programming, and pristine seaside setting, Esperanza will continue to be recognized as one of the best resorts in the world.”

Auberge Resorts Collection tapped acclaimed interior designer Mary Alice Palmer of HKS Architects and landscape architect George Girvin, to lead the resort’s extensive re-design. Inspired by the natural colors of the rocky cliffs and crystal blue ocean, Esperanza’s new look welcomes guests with a sun-kissed palette of sandy neutrals and shades of gray mixed with the warmth of light driftwood and hand-woven palapas. Original art and handcrafted furnishings by revered Mexico-based craftsmen have been reinterpreted in a fresh way exclusively for Esperanza, paying homage to the traditions of Mexico.

“Set on a backdrop of vivid sunsets and turquoise blue waters, Esperanza is truly a magical place,” said Palmer. “Our intention with the redesign was to take a contemporary approach and create sophisticated intimate spaces that complement the innate beauty of the surrounding landscape and captivating oceanfront setting.”

    Guest Rooms

The guestrooms and suites have been reimagined to evoke a romantic seaside sanctuary. Warm shades of natural gray, faded blue and white provide a calming and inviting space for guests to retreat while weathered driftwood-colored woodwork, rustic woven linens, natural leather and metallic tile finishes in bronze and silver add layers of texture and draw in the beauty of the outdoors. Guest beds will be embellished with a dramatic artful backdrop with warm lighting and a soft netting drape, creating a serene setting for romance. New interpretations of traditional Mexican craftsmanship are seen throughout the room in the handmade furniture, hand-blown glass and ceramic lighting, hand-embroidered pillows and bathroom accessories created by local artisans from Guadalajara and Oaxaca including José Noé Suro of family-run Cerámica Suro. Antique mirrors and artifacts from artisans throughout Mexico adorn the space to further showcase the beauty of traditional craft in a fresh and modern way. The refreshed bathrooms feature floating double vanities and spacious showers built for two with access to the terrace beyond. The outdoor plunge pool and wrap-around banco that lines the private terrace complete the intimate indoor/outdoor living room experience.

Cocina del Mar and The Lounge Bar

With a new ceviche bar taking center stage, Esperanza’s signature Cocina del Mar restaurant will be reintroduced to complement the seafood-driven local cuisine Chef Gonzalo Cerda is known for. Guests can enjoy fresh catches of the day at the hand-sculpted ceramic ceviche bar that glows against metallic tile carpets, rustic wood furnishings and woven leather. The restaurant’s soft woven palapa roof set against black charcoal beams illuminates sunny skies by day and sparkling stars by night. A cluster of hanging wood cylinder pendant lights will create a sparkling star pattern throughout the palapa in the evenings and candle lanterns will dot the thatched walls, walkways and shady palm trees creating a romantic cliff side dining experience. The Lounge Bar will be stylishly re-envisioned with radiant, hand-made ceramic agave-shaped lanterns draped from metallic driftwood branches that cascade from the palapa ceiling. The fire pit in the Lounge Bar will be covered under shady trellises and rustic carved columns, creating a dramatic backdrop to the bar, which will feature more than 100 artisanal tequila selections.

    Spa

The Spa at Esperanza will feature a new contemporary outdoor relaxation lounge set under a large palapa with calming gray and natural colors and local Mexican art pieces, and a new large retail boutique will feature highly curated selections of local art, housewares, textiles and accessories sourced from artisans from various regions throughout Mexico.

In celebration of the reopening, The Spa at Esperanza will be launching a new Integrated Wellness Program featuring a fitness schedule with up to 35 different yoga and exercises classes weekly with guest instructors, a nutritionist expert, acupuncture therapy and new healthy cooking classes. For the month of June, guests can enjoy a second treatment complimentary and take advantage of the promotional treatments which include a relaxing and soothing tequila body treatment and a Mexican coffee detox and energizing body treatment.

    Arrival

Upon arrival, guests will be naturally drawn to sweeping ocean views as they walk atop a new tiled staircase of traditional mosaic and grey stoned paths that take them from the entryway to the edge of the plaza overlooking the glittering blue Sea of Cortez.  At the heart of the plaza lies a bright bonfire sculpture set against a backdrop of sun-bleached wood palapas, trellises and oversized pots drenched in natural gray and sandy colors. Hundreds of hand-lit candles will also glow throughout the resort and guestrooms every evening, creating an enchanting setting under the stars.

    Pool

The pool and poolside terraces will dramatically transform from day to night with more romantic spaces for guests to relax under the sun and stars. Guests can enjoy new private luxury cabanas and plush chaise lounges at the pool terrace along with new palapa-style cabanas with day beds built for two down at the resort’s private beach. The pool, clad with shimmering teal tiles that reflect the colors of the ocean and iridescent seashells, will feature a new sunning ledge with in-water chaise lounge chairs. Hammocks strung among the resort’s terraces will also provide new cozy places for couples to connect.

A member of the prestigious Relais & Châteaux collection, Esperanza encompasses a 57-room resort, 60 privately owned villas, 36 private residences, a full-service spa and several signature dining outlets, located on the bluffs overlooking two private coves at Punta Ballena near Cabo San Lucas. Houstonian Dan Friedkin Purchases Aspen’s Historic Hotel Jerome

HOUSTON, TEXAS (February 10, 2015) – Houstonian Dan Friedkin, through his hospitality investment company Iconic Properties, has purchased Aspen’s historic Hotel Jerome, an Auberge Resort, from Chicago-based DRW Real Estate. The purchase is part of Friedkin’s further expansion in the hospitality industry, following his 2013 investment in Auberge Resorts Collection, in which he became a majority owner and assumed the role of Chairman of the Board. Auberge will continue its management of the luxury hotel.

A Rocky Mountain icon, the 93-room Jerome completed a top-to-bottom revitalization in 2012 under DRW’s ownership and direction and re-opened as an Auberge Resort. Known since the 19th century as the social hub of Aspen, the re-envisioned hotel balances preservation and luxury with its beloved character and rich architectural details intact. Guest rooms and suites feature rich 21st century luxuries, and redesigned public spaces include Prospect, an American bistro; a relaxed new Living Room bar and lounge; a new Auberge Spa; and a refreshed look for the legendary J-Bar, an Aspen institution. First opened in 1889, the Jerome pioneered new levels of innovation and luxury at the height of Aspen’s boomtown silver-mining era and is often described as Aspen’s “crown jewel.” Hotel Jerome was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

For Friedkin, a longtime Colorado property holder, Aspen has special significance. “My family and I have enjoyed many years of visiting and owning residences in Aspen, and it’s a very special place to me personally,” he said. “I could not be more pleased to welcome Hotel Jerome into our investment portfolio. It has an enviable and storied history as a landmark American hotel, and it is most certainly one of the flagship properties of the Auberge Resorts Collection. I commend Don Wilson, the Managing Partner of DRW Real Estate, for bringing the Jerome back to glory, and I’m honored to take stewardship of the hotel ensuring it remains one of the great hotels of the United States.”

“We fully support Dan Friedkin and Auberge Resorts in this transition” said Wilson. “Under Dan’s stewardship and Auberge’s management, Hotel Jerome has a very bright future.”

The Jerome purchase supports Friedkin’s strategy to develop a world-class hotel investment brand that owns and, through Auberge Resorts Collection, operates one-of-a-kind luxury properties. On a personal front, it reflects his life-long passion for outdoor pursuits and adventure, an interest that dovetails with many of his business ventures. As Chairman and CEO of The Friedkin Group, Friedkin manages investments across a diverse array of private businesses, including entertainment, aviation, wholesale and retail automotive distribution and high-end hospitality asset development. Friedkin oversees Legendary Expeditions, a luxury adventure travel operator with access to more than 6 million acres in Tanzania. Under Friedkin’s leadership, his family directs substantial amounts of philanthropy to proven, tactical approaches in environmental stewardship, the preservation of wildlife, and community development both in their home state of Texas and internationally.
