Summer Fun in Bend, Oregon

May 16, 2013

While Bend, Oregon is amazing year round, summer is the perfect time to plan a family vacation to the Northwest! The summer months offer beautiful weather and a huge calendar of events and activities. Central Oregon is known for its amazing brews, restaurants, and golf, but if you’re traveling with children, there are plenty of other things to do!

For families that enjoy being near the water, consider renting kayaks or going rafting in Deschutes River. Sun Country Tours will set you up with everything you need, as well as offer packages for a few hours to multiple day excursions. The Crooked River is also great for fly fishing lessons! Finish off the day with a scenic hike to Tumalo Falls.

If you’re trying to stay on dry land, create your own adventure in Deschutes National Park on horseback! All levels of riding experience are welcome to stroll the trails along side rushing brooks and under the pine groves. Be sure to catch a view of Broken Top and Mt. Washington, and keep your eyes peeled for a herd of elk passing by! If your kids are up for a physical challenge, hiking and mountain bike riding are great ways to blow off extra energy!

In town there are plenty of happenings for kids and families to explore. Farmers Markets are popular in Central Oregon and bring the best and freshest produce to your own hands. Different markets are open throughout the week, so be sure to check out VisitBend.com for information and for a full calendar of events and festivals happening in Bend this summer!
